Between them, Michel Roux Jnr and Phil Howard have helped shape modern British restaurant food over decades.  Their careers have been defined by serious technique, exacting standards and a belief that cooking should always put pleasure and flavour first.

On September 10th they will be coming together to cook a very special dinner indeed. It is inspired by the opening feast in the French film ‘The Taste of Things’ – a great movie that uniquely captures the very heart and soul of French gastronomic cooking. Its story reflects Phil and Michel’s shared passion for flavour, seasonality and classic technique while dismissing showiness for showiness’s sake. The glorious menu (below) for this one-off gastronomic dinner will be cooked by Phil and Michel working together in the kitchen with the Elystan Street team and some Le Gavroche veterans too.

Phil’s early career included work for the Roux family, which makes this dinner feel like both a natural meeting of minds and full-circle moment. This will be an haute cuisine celebration of all that makes classic French cooking so joyous, so delicious and so special.
